  • VEHICLE MAINTENANCE SUGGESTIONS.

  1. Oil Changes.  Today's oil change schedules are all over the place. There are a lot more types of oils out there and each car manufacturer has their own choices. Some run conventional, others use semi-synthetic and still others run full synthetic. Aside from that they all have different capacities, 3.8 up to 9.5 quarts. While you are under warranty and they are giving you the service for free they follow the warning light. We have built our recommendations built on experiences in engine repair. If you have conventional or semi-synthetic change every 3,000 miles. Vehicle requiring full synthetic, do it every 5,000 miles. Now we have some customers that that don't reach these mileages in a year's time. If that is your situation, do it once a year. Pretend it is a birthday and put it on your calendar.
  2. Tire Rotations. The tire manufacturers on the whole recommend they be rotated every 6,000 miles. Some car manufacturers like Lexus recommend at 5,000 mile service interval. To save you the extra visit, we'll go back to the oil change schedule and say with syntheic, do it every oil change and with the conventional and semi-synthetics, do it every other oil change. It is important that, when you get your tires rotated, you should be updated by the technician of irregular wear. Many shops just rotate the tires. You have no idea if they are wearing good or not. Tires purchased at Personalized Auto Care are rotated for free.
  3. Wheel Alignments. We recommend you do this annually. If nothing else get it checked.
  4. Fluid Replacement. There are a variety of fluid exchanges. The most important of these is the brake flush. It should be done every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Generally we only do it if the CBS calls for it or when we do a brake repair. There are no set guidelines for the other fluids just have them inspected during interval services.
  5. Cabin Filter. Most manufacturers replacing these filters every 15,000 miles. Cabin filters are inspected at service intervals and should only be replaced as needed.
  6. Air Filter. Most manufacturers recommend replacement at 30,000 miles. Similar to cabin filters, these should be inspected at service intervals and replaced as needed.
  7. Spark Plugs. Most manufacturers have their own selected interval while others have none. If you are in doubt check the owner's manual.
  8. Tire Replacement. With most of today's cars running a performance type tire, typical life is between 30 and 35,000 miles. Under proper tire maintenance (air pressure, rotation and alignment) you can extend the life of them.
  9. Wiper Replacement. We recommend wipers be changed once a year preferrably in the fall before the snow falls. Vehicles that sit outside a lot might want to replace more often as the softness of the rubber fades with element changes. Here's a little more info about wipers
